Tandberg Data Returns to the European RDX Market with eParts

Historically recognised for the reliability of its backup solutions, Tandberg Data disappeared from the market in early 2025 following the liquidation of its parent company Overland Tandberg and its European subsidiary based in Dortmund, Germany.

This disappearance left thousands of companies without support, many of which were still using RDX drives and cartridges—a robust and easy-to-use storage technology widely adopted since 2006.

In response, French distributor eParts took the initiative to contact the Asian investors who had acquired the brand and its manufacturing assets, to help them relaunch operations in the European market—thereby ensuring technical continuity and full compatibility with existing equipment.

eParts now serves as exclusive master distributor for the EMEA region, overseeing the restart of production, distribution, and technical support for the brand.

A Relaunch Centered on RDX

“When the closure of Overland Tandberg was announced, we saw a sharp increase in demand for RDX hardware and cartridges. That made us realize there was still real potential in this market, and we reached out to the brand’s rights holders,”
explains Tanguy Bérard, Managing Director of eParts.

The relaunch focuses exclusively on RDX (Removable Disk Exchange) technology — with LTO tape products from Overland through IBM excluded from the scope — a market estimated at around €20 million per year for Europe only.

Under the new Tandberg Data Europe entity, eParts now oversees:

–       the distribution and technical support of the RDX product line

–       the development of new generations of RDX products

–       pan-European distribution through an authorized reseller network

–       after-sales service and product warranties

A Growing European Distribution Network

To ensure immediate availability across the continent, eParts is already working with several wholesale distribution partners:

–       France: Ingram Micro, Dexxon Group

–       Germany: Wortmann/Kosatec

–       Denmark: EET Group

–       United Kingdom: Titan Data Solutions

–       Switzerland: Alltron

–       Italy: FF Service

This network secures supply and support (including for products sold before the liquidation) for resellers, integrators, and maintainers, as well as their professional end-users throughout the covered regions.

“We are currently seeking additional partners (distributors, system integrators, resellers) to expand our European distribution network and reach resellers looking for RDX products and backup solutions in markets not yet covered,”
adds Tanguy Bérard.

A Niche but Strategic Market

The European RDX market remains active and profitable, estimated between €15 million and €20 million annually. Since 2006, more than 1.3 million RDX drives have been installed across Europe, and several hundred thousand remain in use today. This strong installed base justifies a sustainable relaunch focused on reliability, continuity, and backward compatibility.

“Our mission is to make it clear that the Tandberg Data brand is back, that production has resumed, and that a structured distribution network is being rebuilt across Europe. We aim to provide European RDX users with the continuity they’ve been waiting for,”
concludes Damien Thiaudière, CEO Europe, Tandberg Data.

eParts is a French IT distributor founded in 2005, specializing in IT hardware, computer components, spare parts, and storage solutions. Based in Bobigny, near Paris, the company operates across France and Europe in the office, gaming, telecom, and repair parts sectors—its historical business focus. eParts serves a network of over 2,000 IT resellers and system integrators, and reported €50 million in revenue in 2025, with a team of 25 employees.

Founded in 1979 in Norway, Tandberg Data is a historic brand specializing in professional backup and removable storage solutions (QIC, SLR, LTO) before developing its signature RDX (Removable Disk Exchange) technology in 2006. Renowned for its durability and compatibility, RDX has become a reference for secure local backup and data transport in professional environments. After Overland Tandberg’s liquidation in early 2025, the brand was revived by Asian investors with the support of eParts, its exclusive European master distributor. This revival builds on an installed base of over 1.3 million RDX units and a European market estimated between €15 million and €20 million per year.
