RICOH SP-2230 and SP-2240 combine class-leading image quality and versatile paper handling for dedicated PC-based workflows
PFU Limited (“PFU”), a Ricoh company and the world’s leading document scanner manufacturer¹, has expanded its recently launched SP Series with the RICOH SP-2230 and RICOH SP-2240. The two USB-only document scanners are designed for organisations whose document capture workflows are based around a dedicated PC.
The new models provide a lower-cost alternative to the network-enabled RICOH SP-2230N and SP-2240N launched in June. They are intended for businesses that do not require Ethernet connectivity or the PC-free DirectScan functionality offered by the N models. By focusing on PC-based operation, the SP-2230 and SP-2240 offer a more accessible entry point while retaining the speed, versatile paper handling and class-leading image quality of the network-enabled models.
“Not every organisation needs network connectivity or PC-free scanning,” said Yasunari Shimizu, President and CEO PFU (EMEA) Limited. “The SP-2230 and SP-2240 give customers a more affordable option for PC-based workflows, while retaining the reliable performance, high-quality image capture and ease of use for which RICOH scanners are known.”
Fast and versatile paper handling for dedicated PC workflows
The RICOH SP-2240 scans at speeds of up to 40 pages per minute, while the SP-2230 delivers up to 30 pages per minute. Both models have an 80-sheet automatic document feeder and a compact footprint, helping teams process regular document volumes efficiently even where desk space is limited.
Both models can handle paper weights ranging from 27gsm till receipts to 413gsm folders, as well as standard business documents, plastic cards and A3 documents folded in half. Mixed batches can be scanned together without pre-sorting documents by type or weight, while lag detection helps protect originals during scanning.
Class-leading image quality for accurate OCR
Backed by more than 50 years of engineering expertise and over 15 million scanners sold worldwide, Ricoh has built a long-standing reputation for reliable performance and high-quality image capture. The SP-2230 and SP-2240 continue that tradition through two complementary technologies. PFU Clear Image Capture technology is built into the scanner hardware and captures the source accurately at high optical resolution. PaperStream IP, the scanner driver included with both models as standard, then optimises the image on the connected PC by sharpening characters and reducing background colour, shading, patterns and marks. Together, they produce clean, consistent images that improve OCR accuracy and reduce the need for manual correction. Automatic paper size detection and image rotation further streamline the capture process.
Fast and simple digitisation with intuitive operation
Designed to make routine document capture straightforward for both new and experienced users, the RICOH SP-2230 and SP-2240 offer one-click scanning with minimal setup. Using PaperStream ClickScan software, users can scan and save documents by selecting “Scan” from a right-click menu or by pressing the scanner’s on-device button.
For more structured workflows, the scanners can also be used with software from the wider PaperStream portfolio to support data extraction and release into downstream business systems. This helps organisations turn scanned documents into useful information more quickly and with less manual intervention.
